How to Ensure Your Internet Habits are Known Only by You
Do you know you
have HIDDEN files on YOUR computer?
Index.dat files
keep copies for everything that was ever in your Temporary
Internet, Cookies, and History folders. They secretly record
and keep copies of everything that was ever in your cookie,
history and temporary internet folders even AFTER these
files have been deleted. By default the attributes for these
files are set to "Hidden", but they live on your computer
here:
The average 12
year old can access and read these files. They can find out
every where you have gone and everything you have done
online. All this information is stored in the index.dat
files.
What if you have
to send your computer in for repair? Wouldn't you like to
keep your internet surfing habits and other personal data
private? Not to mention your boss, spouse, girlfriend,
boyfriend, Mom, Dad, co-worker... ANYONE else who may share
your computer.
Internet privacy
is an issue only you can do something about. No one else is
going to do it for you. Your Internet surfing habits are
your business, you should keep it that way.
You can not
permanently delete index.dat files as they will
automatically be recreated, but you can remove the data in
the files. These files will continue to run, recording your
surfing habits, but can be cleaned at any time using a
number of recommended third party products.
